Perry is Perry is a Chicago native, born to Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. In the ABC sitcom Roseanne (as as seen through flashback) Her mother portrayed Jackie Harris in two of Perry's early TV appearances. Perry was forbidden to begin acting in front of her family until she reached adulthood, as they feared the anxiety it could result in. Perry claims she never wanted to become an actor during high school but decided to take up performing as a form of social interaction while at Northwestern University when she switched from Boston University. Perry moved to New York, where she landed small roles in series such as Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Home sickiness led Perry home to California which was where theatre jobs were readily available. She performed on Broadway as a part of The Other Place with her mother in the year 2013. She appeared in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winner Anna Christie as well as Kevin McKidd. This was presented at West Los Angeles' Odyssey Theatre Ensemble. In 2016, Perry appeared on nine episodes on ABC's drama The Family. In 2017 she had a recurring role on the ABC drama about politics Scandal with her father. That same year she was cast as a younger version of Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) on Young Sheldon, a spin-off of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory again as a teen version of her mother's. The actress was chosen for the role in spite of her strong familial connection to the character.
